WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

  • Founded by three visionary entrepreneurs driven by their passion for glass and committed to providing customers with the highest quality products available, we were known as Metropolitan Glass and Glazing way back then.

1990's

LEADING THE WAY IN TECHNOLOGY.

  • Metro Glass introduced 1st generation Low E glass
    using hardcoat technology, revolutionising thermal
    performance of glass.

  • We commissioned double glazing production
lines throughout our North Island plants,
    well before it was mandated.

2000's

TAKING PERFORMANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

  • Metro Glass were the first to introduce 2nd
generation Low E glass in New Zealand.
This soft coat technology transformed thermal
    performance, with virtually invisible coatings.

  • The H1 building code changes in 2009
effectively made it mandatory to use
double glazing in all new builds.

2010's

GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY.

  • Metro Glass began recycling waste glass
from all our plants, stopping it from
    going into landfill.

  • We also began auditing our glass
    material suppliers annually including
    their sustainability and corporate social
    responsibility policies.

OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED.

  • The first glass company in New Zealand to attain Declare Label (Red List Free) certification.

  • Recycling 99% of all our waste glass.

  • Became Toitu Envirocare Carbon Reduce Certified.

  • Further H1 building code changes came into effect

Form declaring double glazing glass ingredients

Proudly the first glass company to achieve “Declare Red List Free” in New Zealand

Retrofit double glazing is proudly Red List Free on our double and triple glazing Low E glass - meaning they contain no toxic chemicals or harmful ingredients.

What is Declare?

Think of a Declare Label like a food nutrition label, but for building products. It shows you exactly what a product is made from, where it comes from, and what happens to it at the end of its life. This makes it easier for you to choose products that are safer for your family, healthier for your home and better for the planet.

What does Red List Free mean?

The “Red List” is a group of the most harmful chemicals often used in building products. If something is Red List Free, it means it doesn’t contain any of these toxic ingredients. By choosing Red List Free products, you’re creating a healthier home environment, avoiding unnecessary exposure to harmful substances and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future.
